We are now out of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The last kilometers before Ontario were, as already described, simply open, wide land - and yes, the sunsets here are gigantic. In Ontario, on the other hand, the picture suddenly changes - different landscape with thousands of lakes along the Transcanada Highway. Pretty as a postcard! It's Saturday, September 18th. We still have almost exactly 1 month ahead of us before the plane takes us to Munich. Since we must not underestimate the time, we do a few days " eating miles". Even if we are now on the highway for about 500-700 kilometers every day, our places to stay are just great. And we're making great progress. After 5 days we have crossed Ontario and are in the middle of Quebec.
When we just moved to Corning, Helen, Armin and Henry visited us. They had made a tour to Canada with Sir Quigley in 2018 and stayed at the Parais de Marin campground. We also want to visit there, because you can watch the whales directly from your camp spot. Tuesday, September 21st. We find a wonderful place and are now facing the sea again - this time on the Atlantic. And what can we say, it is once again incredible to watch these huge, fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. Again and again you can hear the whales when they blow off air, only to see them step out of the water with their backs shortly afterwards - and if you are lucky you can also see their fins as if they want to perform a trick. No wonder we stay here for 3 nights. It is very windy and rainy, but we make ourselves comfortable with wind and rain protection and a nice warm camp fire.
On the day of our departure, a whole group of beluga whales came by. We see these white sea creatures for the first time and we are speechless - it is so beautiful to see the white backs flashing out all over the water. Just genius!
But we “have to” move on. We take a small ferry from Les Escoumins to Trois Pistoles. During the 90-minute crossing we see dolphins, seals, mink whales and also a few belugas. But unfortunately the rain now wants to accompany us on our tour, which is why we book us a motel room for the next 2 days. Warming up in between is really good. By the way, only French has been spoken for a few days and all signs are in French. Sometimes we have to dig in our head for a long time to get back to our school French - but it works quite well.
Monday, September 27th, we want to go back to the water. Among other things, we spend the night in the parking lot of Irving Park, which we explore completely by bicycle. For Lynda it is a pleasure to be so close to the mini squirrels and to feed the birds by hand (Lynda note: "Made my day!")
It is also autumn here in Canada - we were able to marvel at a very beautiful Indian Summer in Corning, but the play of colors of the leaves here in Canada surpasses a lot.
The next day starts with delicious coffee and we go to the city of St. John, where we want to stroll around a bit. Some of the things here are reminiscent of Irish life, with one pub lined up next to the other on the streets. We enjoy the little excursion and then continue to spend the night again in a parking lot of the Mispecs Beach Park directly on the water.
To be continued ... and a few more pictures for now ...
